N-HYPPADEC PARTICIPATES IN UNESCO FLOOD RESILIENCE TECHNICAL DIALOGUE AND TRAINING IN MINNA.
The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has participated in the UNESCO Technical Dialogue on Flood Preparedness, Effective Flood Risk Management and Building Societal Resilience, as well as the Training on Climate Risk-Informed Decision Analysis (CRIDA), held in Minna, Niger State.
The three-day programme, implemented by UNESCO with the support of the Government of Japan, took place from 14th to 16th September 2026.
The two events were attended by the Commission’s Head of Dams Operations, Malam Adamu Utono Zubairu, and the Head of GIS, Rukayyah Bahago.
The programme had in attendance UNESCO officials and key stakeholders from the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Niger State Government, Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Federal University of Technology, Minna, and other relevant institutions.
The technical dialogue provided an opportunity for stakeholders to exchange lessons from recent flood events, enhance coordination, identify technical and financial gaps, and examine practical measures for strengthening flood resilience and climate-risk-informed decision-making in Niger State.
The programme featured contributions from representatives of the UNESCO Abuja Office and the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Farouq Adamu Kuta.
Similarly, the CRIDA training equipped participants with practical approaches to integrating climate risks into planning and decision-making processes.
