MANAGING DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

Welcome to the official website of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC).
 

​The Commission was established by an Act of the National Assembly in 2010 and commenced full operations in 2021.

​Our core mandate is to mitigate the adverse impacts of hydroelectric dams on riverine communities, many of which have endured years of neglect despite their immense contributions to the nation’s economy.

Since my appointment in 2021 as the pioneer Managing Director, and my subsequent reappointment in August 2025 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Commission has remained committed to addressing the ecological and socio-economic challenges confronting our mandate areas.
Through our strategic interventions, N-HYPPADEC has continued to bring succor and renewed hope to riverine communities.
Our interventions and programmes span several sectors, including agriculture, resettlement, youth and women empowerment, security, education support, rural infrastructure such as roads and culverts, environmental protection, and the provision of safe water transportation, among others.

​The Commission initially started with six member states—Benue, Kwara, Kebbi, Kogi, Niger, and Plateau. However, the establishment Act was amended in 2023 to increase the number  to ten with the inclusion of Kaduna, Nasarawa, Gombe, and Taraba. This expansion is a testament to the solid institutional structure put in place and the outstanding performance of the Commission’s within the first four years of operations.

Despite the numerous achievements and interventions implemented across riverine communities, we believe there is still much more to be accomplished. I therefore seek your continued support as we strive to sustain and deliver more development projects in  power-producing areas across Nigeria.

We appreciate the cooperation of our critical stakeholders and partners and assure you of our firm resolve to remain transparent, accountable, and committed to improving the lives of the people within our mandate areas.
