https://static.wixstatic.com/media/746e2e_2a82077e87874e04a0cf2c8b63e7efb2~mv2.jpg NATIONAL HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER PRODUCING AREAS DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION (N-HYPPADEC) is a federal commission established to drive socio-economic, environmental, and infrastructural development in communities affected by hydroelectric power dams. Its mandate includes planning, policy formulation, and implementation of programmes that mitigate ecological impact and improve living standards.

Although established by Act of Parliament in 2010, N-HYPPADEC became operational in 2021 and has since undertaken broad developmental interventions across its member states.

Supporting community electrification through installation of solar-powered boreholes and street lights. Strengthening access to power sources e.g., installation of transformers and connection upgrades around water supply projects.

Year Key Intervention 2021 Commission begins operations and needs assessments across host areas. 2024 Community mapping of over 6,000 communities to guide interventions. 2025 Housing resettlement & flood mitigation projects begin; expanded life-saving equipment distributions. 2025–Aug N-HYPPADEC inspects and pushes to revive the Bida Mana Water Works Water, Yelwa-Yauri Water works for potable water delivery.

Communities can benefit by: Participating in needs assessment exercises. Partnering with state governments and community leaders. Reporting infrastructural, social, or environmental issues directly to the Commission for inclusion into planning.
