N-HYPPADEC PARTICIPATES IN THE CELEBRATION OF 2026 WORLD HUMANITARIAN DAY.

The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) joined other relevant government agencies, humanitarian organisations and stakeholders to commemorate the 2026 World Humanitarian Day. The event provided a platform for stakeholders to reflect on the importance of humanitarian action, recognise the efforts of humanitarian workers, and strengthen collaboration towards providing timely and effective assistance to vulnerable and crisis affected populations.

Participants discussed the need for stronger synergy among government institutions, humanitarian agencies and other stakeholders to ensure that assistance reaches affected populations promptly and effectively.

The Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, FCNA, FNIIS FNIM, was represented at the occasion by the Head of Press and Public Affairs Unit, Mallam Nura Tanko Wakili.

In his goodwill message, the Managing Director theough his representative advocated for disaster prevention initiatives as the best form of humanitarian action rather than responding when it occurs. He stated that N-HYPPADEC is providing impactful interventions in the areas of flood and erosion control infrastructure, awareness creation on disaster preparedness and timely relief assistance to victims of disasters with a view to upholding human dignity in line with international best practices.

The Managing Director described the Niger State Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management as a critical partner in achieving the core mandate of the Commission while stressing the for sustained partnership and collaboration with relevant institutions, noting that such cooperation is essential to achieving meaningful and sustainable humanitarian interventions.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajiya Mairo Mohammed Mann, commended for its partnership in hosting the event and called for a collective responsibility towards effective disaster management in the state.

She appreciated other participating agencies and stakeholders for their contributions towards humanitarian activities and encouraged continued collaboration in strengthening humanitarian response mechanisms.

The celebration featured the presentation of awards to deserving individuals in recognition of their contributions to humanitarian service and community support.

As part of the activities marking the celebration, N-HYPPADEC also demonstrated its commitment to humanitarian support through the presentation of toiletries to the Nigerian Correctional Service, Minna.
