N-HYPPADEC DISTRIBUTES RELIEF MATERIALS, FARM INPUTS, AND CASH TO FLOOD VICTIMS IN KWARA STATE.

The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has distributed herbicides, pesticides, NPK fertilisers, and the sum of 10 million Naira to victims of flood disasters in Edu and Patigi Local Government Areas of Kwara State.

The Commission also distributed hand-driven planters and power tillers to all five N-HYPPADEC member local government areas in the state: Baruten, Edu, Kaima, Moro and Patigi.

The Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, said the intervention is aimed at restoring livelihoods, reviving agricultural production, supporting affected communities and improving food security following the recent dry season farming losses in the state.

He said the equipment is intended to complement the efforts of the Kwara State Government in promoting mechanised farming.

"In furtherance of the strong collaboration and partnership between N-HYPPADEC and the Kwara State Government towards promoting agricultural mechanisation and enhancing food security, the Commission is also providing 13 HP power tillers and 110 hand-driven planters to farmers through the State Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development," Alhaji Yelwa said.

The N-HYPPADEC boss noted that the intervention builds on several previous programmes undertaken by the Commission in Kwara State. In his remarks, the Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, commended N-HYPPADEC for its people-centred interventions.

The Executive Governor of Kwara State, represented by the Commissioner for Livestock Development and Supervisory Commissioner for the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs Oloruntoyosi Thomas Adebayo, said the intervention aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He assured the Commission of the state government's continued support and collaboration.

This intervention by N-HYPPADEC is a clear demonstration of the Federal Government's commitment to restoring hope to communities affected by natural disasters”, the governor said.

To complement the intervention, the Kwara State Government also distributed bags of hybrid maize seeds to boost maize production across the state.

The Emir of Tsonga, His Royal Highness Dr Haliru Yahaya Ndanusa (OON), appreciated N-HYPPADEC for its continued support to the emirate and surrounding communities.

He assured the Commission that the Emirate would make sure the beneficiaries make judicious use of the farm inputs.

The Chairman of Kaima Local Government and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Kwara State Chapter, Hon. Danladi Abdullahi Abubakar, expressed appreciation for N-HYPPADEC's timely intervention.

He said the local government councils are always delighted whenever they receive a call from the Managing Director because it is usually accompanied by good news and impactful interventions.

Responding to the gesture on behalf of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Abdullahi Gana appreciated the Commission for the cash donation and relief materials, promising that the items would be put to good use to improve agricultural productivity in the affected communities.
