The Managing Director of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, FCNA, FNIS, FNIM (Katukan Yauri), has charged heads of directorates and units of the commission to sustain compliance with the rules and regulations of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).

Alhaji Yelwa gave the charge while delivering his opening remarks at the Procurement Planning Committee meeting on Thursday. He noted that the committee meets periodically to review the commission’s procurement activities in line with its budgetary provisions and the guidelines of the BPP, as well as other extant rules and regulations.

While warning the various directorates against breaching procurement laws, he urged them to build on the feat recorded during the last system review meeting conducted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), where the commission obtained a 70 per cent pass mark.

He said his administration would not tolerate any act capable of bringing disrepute to the commission or his personality, adding that public funds allocated to the commission must be properly accounted for and judiciously utilised for their intended purposes.

“Like I earlier indicated, the purpose of today’s meeting is to ensure that our procurement activities align not only with the Commission’s budget, but operational priorities based on the identified needs of various communities… to ensure that all procurement activities conform with regulations,” he said.

Alhaji Yelwa assured that the commission would continue to enhance and strengthen institutional capacity through training and other measures to ensure staff compliance with procurement regulations.

The meeting was attended by the Director of Administration and Finance, Dr. Haruna Jimoh Gabi; the Head of Procurement Unit; and other members of the committee.
