The Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation (KSBC) has honoured the Managing Director of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, FCNA, FNIIS, FNIM (Katukan Yauri), with a Meritorious Service Award.

The award was presented to the Managing Director as part of activities marking Radio Kogi's 35th anniversary, themed “Voice of the Confluence.”

The renowned media organisation said the award was in recognition of Alhaji Yelwa’s exemplary leadership, commitment to public service and significant contributions to the development and welfare of communities in hydroelectric power-producing areas.

According to the citation accompanying the award, Radio Kogi acknowledged the Managing Director’s role in repositioning N-HYPPADEC as a responsive and community-focused development institution through interventions in critical areas.

The station particularly highlighted the life-changing projects executed by N-HYPPADEC under Alhaji Yelwa’s leadership, including resettlement houses, water safety, solar-powered boreholes, hydraulic drainages, agricultural inputs and equipment, Schools, Security Support, and youth empowerment among numerous interventions in Kogi State.

The station further noted that the award recognised Alhaji Yelwa’s dedication to strengthening partnerships among government institutions, communities and development partners, as well as his high regard for the media.

Receiving the award on behalf of the Managing Director, the Director of Administration and Finance, Dr. Haruna Jimoh Gabi, expressed profound appreciation to the management of the Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation for the honour. He described the award as a humbling recognition of the collective efforts of the Commission’s management and staff in fulfilling N-HYPPADEC’s mandate.

Dr. Gabi conveyed Alhaji Yelwa’s appreciation to KSBC for finding him worthy of the honour, noting that the recognition would serve as further encouragement for the Commission to remain committed to its responsibilities to communities affected by hydroelectric power projects.

According to him, the award was not only a personal recognition of the Managing Director but also a reflection of the dedication of the entire N-HYPPADEC team, whose efforts continue to drive interventions aimed at improving the lives and livelihoods of people within the Commission’s mandate areas.

Dr. Haruna also commended Radio Kogi for 35 years of service to the people of Kogi State, particularly its contributions to information dissemination, public enlightenment, community mobilisation, peacebuilding and the promotion of development.

He emphasised the importance of continued collaboration between N-HYPPADEC and the media, stressing that effective communication remains critical to ensuring that communities are adequately informed about government interventions and actively involved in development processes.

The Director was accompanied in receiving the award by the Special Assistant (Technical Matters) to the Managing Director, Prof. Yasin Abubakar; the Kogi State Coordinator of N-HYPPADEC, Dr. Michael Omeiza Ajayi; and other staff members of the Commission’s Kogi State Office.
