The National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has conducted an assessment of the Idah and Katsina-Ala waterworks in Kogi and Benue states, respectively.
The tour is part of the Commission's deliberate efforts to improve access to a clean and healthy water supply in the two states.
Led by the Director of Operations, Engr. Iliyasu Abdullahi Wara, the team comprising engineers and technical consultants, evaluated the operational status of the critical water infrastructure serving the two power-producing communities.
The inspection also assessed the functionality of existing facilities, identified technical and operational challenges, and assessed the infrastructure needs of the plants.
At the Idah Water Works in Kogi State, the delegation examined the facility's operational systems, including water intake structures, treatment units, pumping stations, storage facilities, and distribution networks.
Similarly, at the Katsina-Ala Water Works in Benue State, the engineering team undertook a detailed inspection of the infrastructure, examining key operational components and engaging with facility managers and relevant stakeholders.
Speaking after the assessment, Engr. Iliyasu Abdullahi Wara emphasised that access to clean and safe water remains a fundamental component of sustainable development and a priority area for N-HYPPADEC.
He noted that the Commission remains committed to ensuring that communities impacted by hydroelectric power generation enjoy improved social amenities and enhanced living conditions through targeted developmental interventions.
