The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) participated in the official launch of Nigeria’s Net-Zero Investment Plan (NZIP), which was organized by the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) in partnership with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. This event brought together high-level representatives from various sectors, including government institutions, development partners, financial institutions, academia, civil society organizations, and the private sector. It was held at the Envoy Hotel in Abuja.

N-HYPPADEC’s participation in NZIP reflects the Commission’s ongoing dedication to climate resilience, sustainable development, and strategic national climate action initiatives.

Prior to the launch, the Commission's technical representative, Rukayyah A. Bahago, who is the Head of the GIS/Environmental Management Unit, actively contributed in the national technical discussions and stakeholder consultation processes. These efforts included providing technical insights on climate vulnerability, environmental sustainability, and the development of hydroelectric power-producing communities, as well as the incorporation of geospatial and environmental management perspectives into national climate planning and investment frameworks. All these initiatives aimed at achieving Nigeria’s long-term objectives for low-emission and climate-resilient development.

The Nigeria’s Net-Zero Investment Plan (NZIP) offers a strategic investment framework intended to facilitate the execution of Nigeria’s climate commitments, promote low-carbon development, and enhance climate resilience across vital sectors of the economy.
