N-HYPPADEC CONTINUES 2026 FLOOD AWARENESS AND ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN IN NAFADA COMMUNITY, GOMBE STATE
The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has continued its 2026 Flood Awareness and Advocacy Campaign in Nafada Community, Gombe State, reaffirming its commitment to promoting disaster preparedness, environmental sustainability, and the protection of lives and property across its member states.
Representing the Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, FCNA, FNIM, FNIIS (Katukan Yauri), the Team Lead, Aminu Yusuf Galadima, sensitized residents on the causes of flooding, preventive measures, and essential safety practices before, during, and after flood incidents.
He explained that the campaign is part of the Commission’s proactive strategy to mitigate the impact of seasonal flooding through sustained public enlightenment and active community participation. He encouraged residents to share the knowledge gained during the sensitization with their families, neighbours, and surrounding communities, emphasizing that effective flood risk reduction is a shared responsibility that requires collective action.
Also speaking at the event, the Gombe State Coordinator, Muhammad Zakari, reaffirmed N-HYPPADEC’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with host communities through continuous awareness programmes aimed at enhancing disaster preparedness and building resilient communities.
In his remarks, the Emir of Nafada, Alhaji Muhammad Hamza Dadum, expressed appreciation to N-HYPPADEC for bringing the flood awareness campaign to the community. He commended the Commission for its concern for the safety and well-being of the people. He appealed for additional developmental interventions, particularly the construction of a school to improve access to education in the area.
The 2026 Flood Awareness and Advocacy Campaign forms part of N-HYPPADEC’s broader flood risk reduction initiative, which seeks to equip vulnerable communities with the knowledge and capacity to prepare for and respond effectively to flooding while fostering a culture of resilience across the Commission’s mandate areas.
