N-HYPPADEC CONDUCTS TECHNICAL ASSESSMENT AHEAD OF PLANNED REHABILITATION OF MANNA WATERWORKS, BIDA, NIGER STATE.

The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has conducted a comprehensive technical assessment of the Manna Waterworks in Bida, Niger State, as part of plans to rehabilitate the facility.

The planned rehabilitation of the Niger State Government asset aligns with N-HYPPADEC’s mandate to enhance infrastructure and provide essential social amenities to power-producing communities.

It will be recalled that in January 2025, N-HYPPADEC upgraded some electrical equipment and replaced the power line at the facility, increasing the capacity from 11 kVA to 33 kVA.

During an inspection of the new power installations on August 20th, 2025, the Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to a complete overhaul of the waterworks, which has a production capacity of 27 million litres. He said this would ensure the supply of safe, pipe-borne water to Bida and neighbouring communities.

To fulfil this pledge, a delegation led by N-HYPPADEC's Director of Operations, Engr. Ilyasu Abdullahi Wara was at the waterworks to carry out the assessment.

Engr. Wara was joined on the tour by engineers from the Directorate of Operations, the Niger State Water and Sewage Corporation, and technical consultants, KSB Pumps. The team evaluated the plant’s electromechanical pumping systems and overall operational condition.

Findings from the assessment highlighted critical areas requiring intervention, including civil and structural works, as well as the renovation of the administrative block and staff quarters to provide a conducive working environment for personnel.

The team also recommended the construction of a perimeter fence to safeguard the facility from encroachment and vandalism, along with the grading of the access road to ease the movement of heavy equipment and treatment materials, among other measures.

Speaking at the end of the exercise, Engr. Ilyasu Abdullahi Wara, expressed confidence that collaboration between N-HYPPADEC, technical partners, and the Niger State Water and Sewage Corporation would ensure the successful execution of the project in line with international engineering standards.
