The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has commissioned and handed over two blocks of classrooms to communities in Chikun and Soba Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.

The benefiting schools are UBE Kurmin Sata, Kamazo Cluster A, Chikun, and LEA Primary School, Suddu, Soba Local Government Area.

Each of the schools received a block of three classrooms with an administrative office. The schools were handed over to the communities by the Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, who was represented by the Kaduna State Coordinator of N-HYPPADEC, AbdulHalim Abidu Yazid, on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

He charged the benefiting communities to take ownership of the facilities, properly maintain and prevent them from vandalism.

The Coordinator said the Commission was deeply concerned about the infrastructure deficit in host communities but noted that its resources were limited.

“You should take care of this new building and show ownership. You should be grateful that such development has reached your community. Over 500 communities across Kaduna State alone need similar support in different aspects, and N-HYPPADEC is doing its best to reach as many as possible,” the Coordinator stated.

Receiving the N-HYPPADEC delegation, community members, traditional leaders, parents, pupils and members of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) expressed appreciation and excitement, describing the N-HYPPADEC intervention as timely and the first of its kind in their communities.

They, however, appealed for additional educational support materials, such as blackboards, desks and chairs, as well as facilities like toilets and potable water sources to complement the new classroom blocks.

The leaders further noted that the schools were overstretched, explaining that Kurmin Sata has over 900 pupils, while LEA Suddu has over 100 pupils, and that both schools are in dire need of additional teachers to cope with the growing enrolment.

Responding to the additional requests, the State Coordinator assured the community members that he would convey their demands to the appropriate quarters for consideration and possible intervention.

The events were marked by jubilation as pupils moved into their new classrooms with joy, while community leaders offered prayers for the Federal Government and N-HYPPADEC.
