N-HYPPADEC Strengthens Food Security With Agricultural Support Programme Across Member States

The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has initiated a comprehensive Agricultural Support Programme aimed at improving food production and enhancing the livelihoods of farmers residing in its host communities. This intervention aligns with the Commission’s mandate to promote the well-being and economic resilience of affected communities in its Member States.
As part of the programme, N-HYPPADEC distributed subsidized fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides, and 13HP hand-driven power tillers to peasant farmers across its Member States. The programme is designed to ease the financial burden of input procurement, boost crop yields, and encourage the adoption of mechanized farming practices among rural farmers who depend heavily on agriculture for their daily sustenance.
The provision of 13HP hand-driven power tillers represents a significant step toward improving farming efficiency. These machines allow farmers to prepare land faster and more effectively, enabling them to cultivate larger areas and increase productivity. The availability of fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides further supports healthy crop development by enhancing soil fertility, controlling pests, and managing weed infestation all essential for securing higher harvest outputs.
According to the Commission, the Agricultural Support Programme is part of a broader commitment to supporting vulnerable communities affected by the presence and operations of hydroelectric infrastructure. Many of these communities experience environmental and economic challenges, making targeted interventions like this crucial for sustaining livelihoods.
Farmers across the benefiting states have welcomed the initiative, noting that the support comes at a time when the rising cost of agricultural inputs has made farming increasingly difficult. They expressed optimism that improved access to mechanization and essential inputs will lead to better harvests and increased income.
N-HYPPADEC reaffirmed that it will continue to invest in programmes that promote agricultural development, empower local farmers, and strengthen community resilience. The Commission also emphasized its dedication to working with relevant partners and state authorities to ensure that its initiatives deliver lasting and meaningful impact.
With this Agricultural Support Programme, N-HYPPADEC continues to demonstrate its commitment to improving living standards, supporting food security, and fostering sustainable development across its host communities.
