N-HYPPADEC HANDS OVER NEWLY CONSTRUCTED BURUKU RESETTLEMENT HOUSES TO BENUE STATE GOVERNMENT.

The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has officially commissioned and handed over 10 units of the newly constructed resettlement houses in Buruku Local Government Area, Benue State, to the Benue State Government.
The project was commissioned by the Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, PhD, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr. Deborah Aber.
The Governor commended N-HYPPADEC for the successful completion of the housing units in Abwa Mbagen, Buruku Local Government Area.
She noted that the intervention is a significant step towards promoting sustainable community development and assured the Commission of the Benue State Government's full cooperation in facilitating the formal handover and occupation of the houses by the beneficiaries.
Representing the Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, FCNA, FNIIS, FNIM, the Director of Administration and Finance, Dr. Haruna Jimoh Gabi, explained that the project is in fulfilment of one of the Commission's core mandates to address the ecological, environmental, and socio-economic challenges faced by riverine communities.
He noted that the official handover signifies more than just the completion of a project, describing it as "a celebration of restored hope, preserved dignity, and the Federal Government's unwavering commitment to improving the lives of communities affected by hydroelectric power generation."
The Managing Director highlighted that, under the Commission's resettlement scheme, 63 housing units were approved across various N-HYPPADEC local government areas in Benue State.
He disclosed that 20 units have been completed and are ready for occupation, comprising 10 units each in Buruku and Guma Local Government Areas.
He further stated that the houses would provide a lasting solution for families displaced by recurring floods, enabling them to rebuild their lives and live peacefully.
Dr. Gabi also expressed profound gratitude to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, under whose supervision the Commission operates, as well as Governor Alia for his strategic partnership with N-HYPPADEC. The Managing Director also extended the Commission's appreciation to the traditional rulers for their consistent support and goodwill.
In his goodwill message, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, who was represented by the N-HYPPADEC Director of Engineering and Technical Services, Engr. Prof. Ipilakyaa Daniel, stated that the project is a flagship initiative made possible through the tremendous support and guidance of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
While reaffirming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration's commitment to providing shelter and stability for communities displaced by flooding, he said, "These housing units are more than physical structures; they represent safety, renewed livelihoods, and a promise that no Nigerian community affected by natural disasters will be forgotten.”
